La Rocca and Moretti repertory is based on original compositions and arrangements of traditional folk music. The music we create speaks many languages and it inhabits a wide musical universe: from folk roots, through contemporary classical music to modern jazz and improvisation. Ancient Future by La Rocca and Moretti is thus an organic music project open to many inspirations.


ORGANIC AND SUSTAINABLE MUSIC

"Each communicative system (whether verbal, visual, musical, or even culinary) (…) is a treasure of unknown potential, a collective creation in which some branch of the human species invested its genius across the centuries. With the loss of each of these systems, the human species not only loses a way of viewing, thinking and feeling, but also a way of adjusting to some zone on the planet which fits it and makes it liveable. In addition, we lose a system of interaction, of fantasy and symbolizing which, in the future, the human race may sorely need."

Just as ecologists argue that biodiversity increases the robustness of an ecosystem, we argue that musical diversity has a power to strengthen human culture, rendering it less vulnerable to future threats.


ANCIENT FUTURE

La Rocca and Moretti anthropological approach to music is inspired by work of Divadlo Continuo Theatre. After many years of collecting material, we’ve been working together on a common research, trying to create music mixing the folk authentic style with the jazz and contemporary classic style, keeping respect for the original melodies, but constructing around them new atmospheres and a formal structure more deep and intricate.
Based on our experience with Continuo, we developed our musical project in a theatrical direction, learning how to give more importance to the narration, to the dramaturgy of the story and how to combine various form of visual arts, theatre and music.

Alessandro La Rocca and Elia Moretti met through the work for Czech based international independent theatre group Divadlo Continuo Theatre. Since 1995 the company has been settled in a little village in South Bohemia called Malovice in a former farmstead called The Plum Yard.
